Semyon Zherebtsov in

Semyon Zherebtsov, a pupil of Omsk hockey, unexpectedly moved to Bars before the start of this season, where, following the results of the regular season, he became the team's top scorer. The 22-year-old striker in the Almetyevsk Neftyanik is finishing the season. In an interview with a BUSINESS Online correspondent, the hockey player told why Avangard terminated his contract at the last moment, about the difficult relationship with Raimo Summanen and spent in Kazan season.

“WHEN AVANGARD SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH SUMMANEN, I KNEW IT WAS BAD FOR ME”

- Semyon, why did Avangard terminate your contract right before the start of this season?

They first signed a contract with me in the summer, and just before the start of the season they canceled it. Why? Do not know. When Summanen arrived in Omsk, he was immediately told that I had problems with my knee. As a result, I was sent to the Avangard farm club - Sokol. There, the conditions were not suitable for me at all, both gaming and domestic. Apparently, they decided to just get rid of me by sending me there.

- It turns out, all because of a sore knee?

In the summer, when they signed a contract with me, there was no head coach in Omsk at all. Was acting Evgeny Kornoukhov, with whom we won the Kharlamov Cup twice. After some time, Summanen is signed, and I immediately understand that this is bad for me.

- Why?

Because in his first arrival at Avangard, he had a bad opinion of me. We didn't have any conflicts, he just didn't like me as a player. He has always liked physically strong players who do a lot of work on the ice. I was no different at the time. It is now, after I played the season in the VHL, having received a lot of playing time at Barca, I have become very physically stronger and gained confidence.

- What eventually happened in Omsk?

They told me: “Now Summanen will arrive, he will look at you, and then we will operate on your knee.” But they sent me to the VHL, and they forgot about my knee. At Sokol, I did everything to get kicked out of there. I wanted them not to terminate the contract with me by mutual agreement, but on their initiative.

- What have you been doing?

Nothing, just behaved incorrectly in some episodes. Then, when I returned to Omsk, they called me and said: “We cannot find you a new team, so we are terminating the contract with you.”

How long before the start of the season?

Literally ten days. The situation was very difficult. At that time, all teams were completed. I didn’t have a chance to get into the KHL at all - all the training camps were completed, they didn’t even think of signing some young guy, everything was packed. At the last moment, they called me from Kazan, they asked me if I wanted to play for them, I answered yes. At that time, I didn’t know at all that I was going to the team, where such young guys gathered.

- And how did your relationship develop with Rzhiga and Matikainen?

Matikainen immediately began to trust me, I received 6-7 minutes of playing time. For a 20 year old boy, this was normal. I also had a good relationship with Rzhiga, he let me play.

- They say that Summanen - extraordinary personality.

I can't judge, because I practically didn't play with him. But I talked to the guys, they told me that it was hard for him. They say that it is impossible to convince him - he always has only his own point of view. In any case, Omsk has a very strong team. I think they will be able to take the top spot this season.

Avangard sent another pupil of Omsk hockey Evgeny Moser to Nizhny Novgorod. You played with him along with the Hawks.

Yes, Zhenya also left Omsk. In general, he is a good guy, with his diligence and patience he managed to return to big hockey, although he almost finished with it. Again, I believe that it was Matikainen who gave him a new ticket to life, and he competently managed to use it.

- Is it true that at one time he played with amateurs on yard boxes?

Yes. In Omsk, he played in the team born in 1993, and then, when they were released, he did not get into the youth team. He played in the amateur league with the guys in the yard, he was accidentally noticed and invited to one of the training camps of the Omsk Hawks. There was, in my opinion, the World Cup among youth teams, where he played very well. Matikainen noticed him, and Zhenya took his chance. Many need to take an example from him.

“IN BARS I GOT TRUST AND GAME PRACTICE”

-Was the transition to Bars a step back for you?

No. In Kazan, I got a lot of playing time. For me now this is the most important thing. Yes, I did not earn money here, but they counted on me and trusted me. I didn't need anything else.

- What are your impressions of the season in Kazan?

A young team - no one set tournament goals for us. The main goal was for their own pupils to gain experience, to feel what adult hockey is. The season has been very difficult. Firstly, it was psychologically difficult when you win two games, and then there is a losing streak. In every match you give it your all, and in most cases we were let down by the stupidest mistakes, because of which we lost. It was all due to inexperience.

- Not everyone, probably, understood where they were playing.

I have no complaints against anyone - everyone played with furious dedication, they just lacked technical and tactical knowledge, understanding of the game.

- They say that at Barça they devote a lot of time to tactics.

Yes, we watched a lot of videos before and after the matches, we analyzed each opponent. It helps a lot. The young guy has enough physics, now he needs to play with his head, and not just run from board to board.

- From the outside, it seemed that the team was playing according to the “hit-and-run” system.

Do not know. The guys are young, most of whom have not even really played in the MHL. Immediately demand from them the perfect hockey? This does not happen, everything comes with experience. After all, men play in the VHL, who need to go out and earn money, feed their families, and we just went out to play, gain experience. Therefore, perhaps, somewhere we lacked concentration, and we missed decisive goals.

- Is it hard to motivate yourself when there are no tournament tasks?

We were not faced with tournament tasks, but we were always required to win. We went to every game to win.

- The players said that Vsevolod Elfimov put a lot of physical stress on you during the training camp.

Yes, he sometimes just killed us with his loads. I can't say anything bad about Vsevolod Sanych - he is a good coach of the old school.

Did you have a one year contract?

Yes, now I belong to Almetyevsk until the end of the season. I had a one-year contract with Bars. For the next season, there is still no specifics. In Neftyanik, they asked me: “If we perform an operation on your knee, will you stay with us?” I see interest from the Almetyevsk team, and I want to play there. At Barça, I don't see prospects for myself now. Now the main thing for me is to have an operation, and in the future I believe that I can still break into the KHL. I need to get a little stronger, keep getting 20 minutes in every game.

As far as I know, for the next season, Bars will be staffed according to the same principle - the emphasis will be on their pupils, but the team will no longer have players born in 1992.

- Zinetula Bilyaletdinov very often visited Bars matches. Maybe he would notice you.

If I noticed, I would already be in the main team.

“ALL CONDITIONS FOR PLAYING HOCKEY ARE CREATED IN KAZAN”

- Tell about yourself? At 22, you already have a family and a child.

Yes, but what's wrong with that? The boy is growing up with me. If after the match he does not come to our locker room, then a whole tragedy will happen. He constantly comes in after the games, greets everyone, leaves the ball with the goalkeepers.

- Does the family live in Kazan?

Yes, we rent an apartment near Korston. We can say that I give most of my salary for an apartment. Again, I didn’t make a lot of money at Barça, it was important for me to get playing time

- Can you compare Avangard and Ak Bars?

In "Ak Bars" they approach hockey on a larger scale - there is a chic base, all the conditions for playing hockey. A lot of people are involved, in Omsk everything is on a slightly different level. I really liked Kazan, a beautiful city, but Omsk is my homeland. I will always be drawn there.

- Your father was a hockey player. Probably, there was no other choice, how to play hockey?

In fact, there is always a choice. On the other hand, yes, my father played hockey since childhood, he spent most of his career in Omsk, so I had a love for hockey since childhood. First, they played with the boys in the yard, went to look at his father, and then he himself came to the hockey school.

- Did you stand out among your peers?

At first, I studied with guys a year older - born in 1991, because because of the school I couldn’t study with my year. Training was in the evenings, and I studied on the second shift. I had to practice in the morning with another year. And then they created a special class, I began to study in the general group.

- There have always been strong youth in Omsk. You won two Kharlamov Cups in the MHL.

It's not even about being strong or not strong. It's just that now the MHL is not at the same level as a few years ago when I played. In my first year in the MHL, I played with guys born in 1988, many of them have now made their way to the KHL. In Ufa, for example, Yegor Dubrovsky is playing now, against whom I played in the final with Tolpar. At that time, the competition was much stronger than it is now.

- The MHL is now called the rubber league. A lot of teams are playing.

I cannot argue whether such a league is necessary or not. It's none of my business. It must have been more spectacular in the past. I practically don’t watch the MHL, I just recently arrived in Almetyevsk, where the Generation Cup was held. I watched the match for 10 minutes and left. I didn't like it, that's not how it looks. I've already left children's hockey, so I don't really want to look at it.

“ALL SEASON I PLAY WITH A SICK KNEE”

- In your time, the transition from the domestic championships to the MHL, probably, was something new?

Yes, I will never forget the first season. I remember when we played at small tournaments in Chelyabinsk or Novosibirsk, we lived in small boarding schools in a room for five or six people. And then, in the summer, we came to Kazan for the Moiseev Cup, where we were settled, in my opinion, in the Riviera. Impressions was the sea. We, green boys, who are 16 - 17 years old, were settled in a five-star hotel. We immediately felt the level.

- Salaries appeared.

Have grown a little.

- Not many players from the Omsk Hawks' champion roster have made it to the KHL right now.

Why? The guys are playing. In the same Omsk, two players of my year are playing now. Now they are trying to trust the youth more. Vanya Fishchenko, for example, went to the World Youth Championship, was involved in the first team, Kirill Rasskazov, Roma Berdnikov. There are guys. It just didn't work out very well for me. I got injured and had to leave Omsk.

- What kind of injury?

Torn cruciate and lateral ligaments. I still need surgery, waiting for the end of the season. I've been playing with this injury all year.

- Doctors are allowed to play?

It won't get any worse. Everything is already broken there, it makes no sense to take care of yourself. I'm waiting for the end of the season to lie down on the operating table. It is bad that there is a long recovery period - about six months.

- It turns out that you will miss the beginning of the season?

No, if the operation is done in February, then I should have recovered by the training camp. Although, it remains to be seen if the season will end in February. Neftyanik and I are not in the playoffs yet, but everything will be decided in the last matches. We have now won two out of three games on the road, although we could have hooked the third one, but the judges in Karaganda “strangled” us.

- They say that in Kazakhstan there has always been a “strange” refereeing.

Very. We played three on five several times. We go into the third period with an advantage of one goal, and immediately get two minutes, we are scored. And literally five minutes before the end, we have a player sent off for allegedly “hitting the head” for five minutes. We then watched this episode several times, it is clear that nothing like this happened. After the game, the referee came to our locker room and apologized. Why these apologies? We needed glasses.

- It seems that Saryarka has already outgrown the VHL level. With such a budget, it's time for them to go to the KHL.

To be honest, I didn’t see anything special in this team. They just collect a squad of players who have played in the KHL. All the experienced guys are there. Good strong team, but nothing more. I believe that if we add a little bit to Neftyanik, make targeted changes, then we will not concede in anything.

An excerpt characterizing Zherebtsov, Semyon Sergeevich

“Oh, this is terrible, terrible! Pierre said. “I just don’t understand how one can live with such thoughts. The same moments were found on me, it was recently, in Moscow and dear, but then I sink to such an extent that I do not live, everything is disgusting to me ... the main thing is myself. Then I don’t eat, I don’t wash… well, how are you?…
“Why not wash yourself, it’s not clean,” said Prince Andrei; On the contrary, you should try to make your life as pleasant as possible. I live and it’s not my fault, so it’s necessary somehow better, without interfering with anyone, to live to death.
“But what motivates you to live with such thoughts?” You will sit still, doing nothing ...
“Life doesn’t leave you alone. I would be glad to do nothing, but, on the one hand, the nobility here honored me with the honor of being elected leader: I got off hard. They could not understand that I did not have what was needed, that well-known good-natured and preoccupied vulgarity, which is needed for this. Then this house, which had to be built in order to have its own corner where you can be calm. Now the militia.
Why don't you serve in the army?
- After Austerlitz! said Prince Andrei gloomily. - Not; I humbly thank you, I promised myself that I would not serve in the active Russian army. And I won't if Bonaparte was standing here, near Smolensk, threatening the Bald Mountains, and then I wouldn't serve in the Russian army. Well, so I told you, - Prince Andrei continued calming down. - Now the militia, the father is the commander-in-chief of the 3rd district, and the only way for me to get rid of the service is to be with him.
- So you serve?
- I serve. He paused a little.

In the camp of "Ermak" another replenishment, this time in the line of attack! On the eve of the opening match of the VHL Championship against Lada, the forward arrived in Angarsk Semyon Zherebtsov (1992), who is a graduate of the Omsk hockey school and a hereditary hockey player. His father Zherebtsov Sergey Valentinovich is also a striker and Omsk graduate.

Over the past few seasons, Semyon has gone from being a player "Omsk Hawks", in which he twice won the Kharlamov Cup, to the player of the main Omsk team - "Vanguard". Last season, he made his debut in the KHL and played in the elite of Russian hockey 16 matches, three of which took place in the playoffs of the Gagarin Cup 2013, eventually gaining 3 (1+2) points.

In addition, he already managed to sniff gunpowder in the VHL, on his account 4 match for Kurgan "Trans-Urals" in which he got 2 (1+1) points. By the way, his debut came just in time for the match with Yermak, it was November 4, 2012, then Semyon gave the pass, which ended with the second goal against our goal.

But still, the promising and talented forward spent most of last season in the MHL. On his account 37 (24+13) matches, 8 (4+4) abandoned goals, 16 assists (13+3), 24 points in the asset and the second champion title of the MHL. During the first match of the final playoff series against Spartak, he entered the history of the tournament as the author of one of the most curious pucks

Omsk opened the scoring already at the 39th second: the Spartak player tried to throw the puck out of the zone, it accidentally hit the goalkeeper's mask and flew into the goal. The last of the Omsk Hawks players touched the puck, Zherebtsov, and he became the author of the goal.

- Do you realize that there may not be such heads in your biography?
— Yes, a funny goal. But I had an even more outstanding one - in the national team. In a game with the Canadians, he threw in the puck from behind the blue line, it ricocheted between the goalkeeper between the pads and hit the goal. Here it's just good that they scored quickly, it was easier to play further.

It is also worth noting that last year he, like several other Omsk Hawks players, defended his final qualifying work as a student of the Department of Theory and Methods of Football and Hockey of the Siberian State University of Physical Culture and Sports (SibGUFK). Semyon made a report on the main provisions of the thesis on the topic: "Model characteristics of the morphological indicators of highly qualified hockey players, taking into account the role." As a result, he, like Kirill Rasskazov, was awarded the qualification "Bachelor of Physical Education" (!!!).

We bring to your attention another hodgepodge from the interview, which will allow you to form a more complete picture of the newcomer to Yermak ...

- Semyon, my colleagues and I sometimes hear reproaches that, they say, we, journalists, over-praise the young players of Avangard and this is to their detriment. Do statements like this offend you?
No, I don't see anything offensive in that. It's good that mentors sometimes give us a chance to try our hand at the first team. But this is no reason for self-admiration. You need to understand that the limit set by the league for young players, and the fact that Avangard has had an infirmary from the very beginning of the season, has an effect here. Well, this situation is unique for us young people. An opportunity to test yourself in adult hockey and at the same time help the team.

— What did you find most difficult when moving from the MHL to the KHL?
“First of all, it was hard physically. In the adult league, the game is much faster, and hockey players are much more aggressive, tougher in martial arts. But gradually the first difficulties pass, you already know what to expect from matches in the KHL, you begin to better understand what to work on even more actively and what to strive for.

What is the first thing you need to work on right now?
Yes, almost everything. We need to work on our defensive game. It is necessary to seriously improve in physical condition in order to withstand the speed and the level of struggle that teams demonstrate in the KHL. Otherwise, the competition for a place in the first team cannot be sustained.

- In North American clubs there is a tradition when veterans arrange various pranks for young people. Haven't they made fun of the young "hawks" yet?

- From match to match, it was felt that you begin to act more calmly, more confidently on the court. Did Petri Matikainen train with you individually? Were there any one-on-one conversations?
- One on one was not. But separately we, young players, were collected. We were told that if we work hard, we are really ready to compete for a place in the first team, then each of us will definitely get his chance. Matikainen said so: “I have sympathy and trust for young players. And if you really deserve it, you will play. And for a young player, the most important thing is to feel that you are trusted. This is where confidence comes from, no matter how hard it is.

- I remember well the first goals scored in official matches for Avangard by Evgeny Orlov, Sergey Kalinin. These goals were accompanied by a whole explosion of emotions. And you reacted very reservedly to your first goal for the main team, abandoned in a home match with Khabarovsk Amur. Is this a real indicator of your temperament?

“Actually, of course, I was really looking forward to this moment. It’s just that there was such an episode… I won the face-off, passed to Pasha Valentenko, then Andriukha Ivanov had a great fight, and I scored by playing the rebound. But when I saw the expression on the referee's face, I thought that he would not count the goal. What is there to hide, upset. And only then the referee showed - the goal was. So it turned out that in the first moment after the abandoned puck, emotions turned out to be a little blurred.

- Did you take the puck as a keepsake to the home museum? Or teammates brought her?
— I myself asked the referee for this puck, now I have it at home. And the fans presented me with a special diploma in a frame about the first goal in the KHL. Huge thanks to them for this!

- Your dad, Sergey Zherebtsov, is a famous Avangard player in the past. Didn't this predetermine your hockey fate from early childhood?

“I loved basketball as a child. I don’t even know why they didn’t send me to the basketball section. (Laughs) But seriously, for as long as I can remember, I was in love with hockey. In the first video of my life, I'm still very small, but I'm already running with a stick! (smiling)

Do you remember how your dad played?
Still, I was still too young! (Smiling) They say he was very good in wrestling, he could give a cool pass.

- Are you discussing your game with him now?
- Certainly! Who else, if not dad, will tell the whole truth? If I played badly, it will point out all my mistakes. Well, if everything is in order - be sure to praise.

Every hockey player dreams of playing in the NHL. Which overseas league team would you like to end up in eventually?

Oh, how far I am from that! (Laughs) Well, if you dream… Since childhood, I have sympathized with Anaheim Mighty Ducks. There is a movie about them, so I used to watch it several times a day. I must have watched it 50 times...

- And who and when determined your hockey role - center forward?
- I remember those times well, we then still rode on a hockey box near my house, in Neftyaniki. And I really enjoyed playing the throw-in. Since then, it has remained in the center. I guess I'm still not fast enough to be a winger. I am very grateful to all my coaches for being where I am now. Thank you very much!

Do you remember what you did on your last day off?
- What's not to remember? Walked with my girlfriend. We have been dating her for six years and plan to get married next summer. And already in November of this year, that is, from day to day, I will become a dad. So last weekend we first went to the hospital with her, and then went shopping.

- Now there will be even less free time ...
- Yes, especially considering that I will soon graduate from SibGUFK, where I study to be a coach. But I will try to be in time everywhere - to play hockey at a high level, and to raise my son as a good person.

- In any team, as a rule, there is an experienced player whose authority young hockey players listen to. The so-called "uncle". For many years at Avangard this function was successfully performed by Dmitry Ryabykin. And who is now "looking after" the young?

- We have young people, but there are no “uncles”. Although, of course, my peers and I carefully listen to the advice of such masters as Sasha Popov, Anton Kuryanov, and other experienced players.

- Which of the hockey players would I like to be like in my playing style?

- There are excellent central forwards, each of them is good in its own way. Sergei Zinoviev, Pavel Datsyuk… I admire Alexander Ovechkin's excellent shot, the way Evgeni Malkin acts on the ice. Here is an example! A simple Ural guy who worked hard. Now he is the world champion, the owner of the Stanley Cup! In general, there is someone to equal

- I noticed that your game number is famous - the eighth. In the phone number, too - as many as five eights! Are you a big fan of Alexander Ovechkin?

Ovechkin has nothing to do with it. I really love number 8. Because my mom's birthday is on the 8th.

- Your father played for Avangard under the seventh number. So, are you following him?

- Yes, dad also played for Omsk. Now my turn. And the younger brother has already started playing hockey. He is only nine years old.

Do they go to your matches?

- Certainly. In general, I have a large personal delegation at all home matches. Headed by her great-grandmother. She is already 90 years old, but she does not miss a single game! She used to go to all her dad's matches. So he's good at hockey. Both grandfathers also come, grandmother, dad, uncle, brother ...

- Does your great-grandmother understand hockey?

- And how! Not Scotty Bowman, of course, but he knows the rules and basic principles of the game. She has archive programs at home since 1993, when my father was still playing in the first team. Baba Lucy is our main fan. When I was younger, I went to Togliatti in 1992 to root for my father. She's not afraid of anything!
