What specialties are taught at the Physics and Technology Institute?

In 2017, admission will be carried out in four areas of training (specialties), in which there are 16 competitive groups. The first specialty is Applied Mathematics and Physics (9 groups), the second is Applied Mathematics and computer science (4 groups), the third - System analysis and management (2 groups) and the fourth - Computer security (1 group).

How to pass an interview?

Every applicant to MIPT is invited to an interview procedure. Representatives of the directorate of the educational unit, dean’s office, rector’s office, basic and institute departments are present at the interview. In short, all those people you will encounter if you are enrolled. The main goal of the interview is to understand what the applicant is like, what he is interested in, what he would like to do at the institute, and to help decide on the choice of field of study and faculty. Each faculty has its own characteristics. They can either ask a question about literature or topics of the chosen faculty, or give a small problem to solve.

What are streams? Is this the same as the enrollment stages?

At MIPT, document submission is divided into two streams. The first stream includes those who submit documents before the first interview on July 12, 2017. From a legal point of view, both streams are equal.

There are several stages of enrollment. Stage zero - enrollment of applicants who enter under a special and targeted quota, BVI. The order is issued on July 29. To enroll in a paid place, you must conclude an agreement on paid training and coordinate it with the leadership of the educational unit in which you are enrolling. Every year the selection committee sets minimum score required for admission to a paid place. Usually it is at least 210–220 points.

You can enter MIPT for correspondence form training?

Such a system gives the student more freedom. When entering the Physics and Technology School, he is not limited to choosing only a faculty with a certain set of disciplines. How to come to Phystech?

From Savelovskaya or Timiryazevskaya metro stations you can get there by commuter train from Moscow (except for Aeroexpress trains). If the train stops at Novodachnaya station, you need to get out of the first car, cross the tracks and follow the direction of the train along the path to campus (5–7 minutes).

MIPT is forming its own list of olympiads that count. Graduates of 2018 who received Olympiad diplomas in 11th grade have the following benefits.

In physics(in the corresponding competitive groups) four first-level Olympiads are accepted: “Phystech”, “Rosatom”, “Pokori” Sparrow Hills!” and the Moscow Olympiad for schoolchildren. The winners of these Olympiads receive a BVI benefit, and the prize-winners receive 100 points in physics. In addition, the Kurchatov Olympiad (second level) is accepted: winners and runners-up receive 100 points in physics (and within the framework of the INBIXT Mathematics and Physics competition group, the winner has a BVI).

Individual achievements

When entering MIPT, it is highly desirable to have all 10 points of individual achievements, which will be included in the total amount of competitive points. It is necessary to clearly understand in advance how many ID points you can receive and for what exactly.

I would like to draw special attention to section 3 of the said ID table, which concerns the awarding of points for diplomas at RSOS Olympiads. In accordance with paragraph 5 of this “Procedure for accounting for ID”, diplomas are accepted starting from 2015! So, if you were a winner of the Phystech Olympiad in 9th or 10th grade, then you have 6 points, and if you are a winner, then 8 points. Prize winning at other second-level Olympiads gives 4 points, victory - 6 points; medals at other first-level Olympiads give 6 points, victory — 8 points. This is why, in particular, it is important to win diplomas from list-based Olympiads in grades 8-10: this solves in advance the issue of gaining the full amount of ID at MIPT.
